PATIENT & FAMILY ADVISORY COUNCIL
Leadership Welcome Message
Dr. Roger A. Mitchell
HUH President
Welcome to the Howard University Hospital (HUH) Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC). At HUH, we believe the perspectives of patients and their families are invaluable in shaping a healthcare experience that is not only effective but deeply compassionate and patient-centered. PFAC serves as a critical platform for ensuring that the voices of those we serve are heard and respected. By collaborating with PFAC members, we are able to understand the real-world impacts of our care delivery, policies, and procedures, helping us identify areas of improvement that might otherwise be overlooked. This partnership ensures that our approach to healthcare is rooted in the lived experiences of our patients, driving continuous improvements in quality, safety, and satisfaction.
We view the PFAC as more than just an advisory body – it is a vital partner in our mission to provide excellent, compassionate, and personalized care. The insights provided by patients and families help us align our services with the true needs of our community. It also fosters a culture of transparency and trust, where patients feel empowered to shape the care they receive. As healthcare leaders, we are deeply committed to the ongoing success of the PFAC, knowing that it strengthens our ability to deliver healthcare that meets the highest standards of quality, empathy, and inclusivity.
The Howard University Hospital (HUH) Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) plays a crucial role in improving healthcare delivery by actively involving patients and their families in the decision-making process. This council serves as a vital bridge between healthcare providers and the community, offering unique insights into patient experiences, concerns, and preferences. By actively involving patients and their families in the decision-making process and integrating the voices of those who receive care, PFACs help to enhance the quality of services, promote patient-centered care, and foster trust and collaboration. Ultimately, the input of patients and families leads to more responsive, compassionate, and effective healthcare systems.
The active goals of Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) typically include:
-
Improving Patient Care Quality and Safety: PFACs work closely with healthcare staff to identify and address potential issues related to patient safety and quality of care, offering patient-centered solutions.
